In my many years as a McDonald’s franchisee,
I worked with many native Spanish-speakers. I realized
that I needed to communicate to them, and the language
barrier needed to come down. So, I learned some key
phrases in Spanish that related to the restaurant—“Please
mop the floors” or “Please empty the trash.”
There is great honor in communicating with people
in their native language. It shows you care and you
notice. I don’t know where you live, but I’m
sure you come into contact with some non-English speakers—or
hearing-impaired individuals. Use the Internet to
find out how you say simple things like “Hello,”
“Goodbye,” “Nice to see you,”
“Thank you,” “You’re welcome,”
and “Please.” Again, this forces you to
notice and be aware of the people around you who do
lots of work on your behalf.
| The great thing about
this list is that you can add anything you want to it. In fact, I’ve
put a little form below that I want you to come up with other ideas and
suggestions for our community of people. And, as an added bonus, if you
send me a picture of you with one of America’s 39 million hardworking
men or women, I’ll send you a FREE book to give to them. We’ll
post your names and pictures here in our Transformation Hall of Fame.
Thanks and good
luck!
