Right now, there are 39 million Americans making less
than $12.00/hour at their jobs. And although that’s
$25,000/year, many of these Americans have negative
net worth and very high dependent care expenses. There you’ll find a profile of
what the average working family faces and how America’s
Family is making a difference. While these 39 million
families have a lot in common, one thing is clear…they
are completely invisible to most of us.
Every day
these hard-working men and women cook our food, clean
our hotel rooms, serve us our morning lattes, handle
our dry-cleaning, stock the groceries, and help us
check out. You interact with America’s “working
poor” every day. What I’ve found is that
most people don't see them. And if we can’t see
them, how will we ever care about them?
Like my
hero, Martin Luther King Jr., I have a dream. I have
a dream to help 39 million hard-working Americans,
who are trapped in poverty, connect to the resources
that will improve their lives and enable them to achieve
the highest level of prosperity. The only way that
will happen is through radical transformation of our
personal prejudices and our daily habits. Here’s
some of what I’m talking about. Think of it
as Six Steps that can change your world—and
our country—for the better:
| The great thing about
this list is that you can add anything you want to it. In fact, I’ve
put a little form below that I want you to come up with other ideas and
suggestions for our community of people. And, as an added bonus, if you
send me a picture of you with one of America’s 39 million hardworking
men or women, I’ll send you a FREE book to give to them. We’ll
post your names and pictures here in our Transformation Hall of Fame.
Thanks and good
luck!
