Shakespeare asked the now famous question, “What’s
in a name?” In my view, it’s all about
identity. Our names are part of our unique identity—it’s
what makes me Steve Bigari! It’s like a fingerprint.
But have you ever noticed how easy it is to refer
to people by their job duty rather than their first
name? “The drive-thru guy messed up my order!”
or “The check-out girl charged me for two ice
creams!” There’s a reason why people wear
name tags—it’s so that you can use them!
When you see a name tag, thank the person by name.
Address them as an individual—not as a job title.
If there’s no name tag, go the extra mile and
ask them for their name.
| The great thing about
this list is that you can add anything you want to it. In fact, I’ve
put a little form below that I want you to come up with other ideas and
suggestions for our community of people. And, as an added bonus, if you
send me a picture of you with one of America’s 39 million hardworking
men or women, I’ll send you a FREE book to give to them. We’ll
post your names and pictures here in our Transformation Hall of Fame.
Thanks and good
luck!
