What’s in a name?

Shakespeare asked the now famous question, “What’s in a name?” In my view, it’s all about identity. Our names are part of our unique identity—it’s what makes me Steve Bigari! It’s like a fingerprint. But have you ever noticed how easy it is to refer to people by their job duty rather than their first name? “The drive-thru guy messed up my order!” or “The check-out girl charged me for two ice creams!” There’s a reason why people wear name tags—it’s so that you can use them! When you see a name tag, thank the person by name. Address them as an individual—not as a job title. If there’s no name tag, go the extra mile and ask them for their name.

The great thing about this list is that you can add anything you want to it. In fact, I’ve put a little form below that I want you to come up with other ideas and suggestions for our community of people. And, as an added bonus, if you send me a picture of you with one of America’s 39 million hardworking men or women, I’ll send you a FREE book to give to them. We’ll post your names and pictures here in our Transformation Hall of Fame.

Thanks and good luck!

Steve Bigari
